March 13th Discussion Question: Why do you believe what you believe?

During this week's episode, Greg and Jasser discuss how Jasser became a Muslim.  It came down to the fact that Jasser's parents are Muslims.  Greg asked Jasser that if his parents were Christians, would he be a Christian?  To that, Jasser said he'd be a Christian.  So what about you?  Why do you believe what you believe?  If your parents were Hindu's, would you be?  If they were Muslims, Mormons, or Zoroastrians, would you be?  Or would you be a Christian?  Why do you believe what you believe?

  1. Many people believe many different things, not neccessarily based on their culture or upbringing, but we cannot ignore that this is a major factor. My parents are Christians, and they have brought me up going to church and reading the Bible. They have done this in a easy, natural way, and I have accepted it without question. Having scored a 25 on the spiritual gift of blieving (Faith) on Wednesday, I should think that the consequences of their actions have not been fake or in any way unconsequential. Of course, other life experiences either reinforce or discourage this, but on my end there seems to have been more reinforcement, as I have seen in Bible studies, personal trials, and the natural world around me.

  2. my parents brought me up as Christians and have had a big influence on me, but once I saw that it is not all about the religion, I made it a relationship. just not knowing that one has a definite place in heaven like in Muslim would scare me. or doing meditation in Buddhism or worshipping many gods in other religions. just knowing that God has provided a definite way for us to get to heaven through his son Jesus Christ is just an amazing thing to know. yes, it may be hard sometimes to be a Christian in a world that doesn't want to accept you as someone who is different from everyone else in a good way, but through the help of other believers, we know that our final place is in heaven with our Father.
